Solid experience at Max's on a Wednesday evening. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express next door and walked over. Wonderful jazz music in the lounge area. The musicians are clearly professionals and super talented - great personalities, too. Don't forget to tip! Complimentary potato chips were served at the bar. Homemade! Happy hour includes appetizers and drinks. I had potato skins served with a chipotle sour cream. Next time I'll opt for regular sour cream. I had matzo ball soup which was some of the best I've ever had. I wrapped up my meal with a ridiculously large slice of chocolate and buttercream icing cake that was off the charts. Great service at the bar and I also met some really nice, interesting fellow travelers. I'll be back when I'm in the area again!

I don't get lost in food that often , but I'm on my 4th day in San Francisco, next to my hotel is a little hidden dimond that needs to be explored their food is seriously out of this world !!! I opted for their Nachos , I watched the regular portion walk to a table that honestly looked like heaven, I've personally never seen anything like it , it made me not only look twice , three times but salivate for about 20 minutes to a stage where I couldn't stop myself , I had to do it ... forget getting a girlfriend , forget everything !!! I went for the small version... i honestly had 15 minutes pure bliss , satisfaction, what other words are there to say ??? everything around me disappeared! I don't even want to go into how it tasted I will just say go for it and don't stop !!! Please ensure you ask James the bar tender to make you his Woodford Old Fashioned... it's absolutely out of this world .... Definitely recommend this establishment!!!

Classic old school Dinner that has an extensive menu with mouthwatering delights like corn beef pastrami, house made crispy cod tacos, fresh tortilla chips with guacamole and pico de gallo! Smooth Live Band Jazz makes the ambiance as smooth as the Livermore Valley Wente Vineyards Merlot. I started off with their fresh house tortilla chips with fresh pico de gallo and guacamole. Very tasty but would have loved a house made chipotle sauce as well, to give it a spicy kick! The only hot sauce they have is Tabasco, which did elevate the flavor. I wanted to sample a taco trio but you must order one protein per each 3-taco order. I went with the crispy fried cod smothered with house slaw and a side of pico de gallo. They were good tacos but lacked a touch of salt. The side of rice, beans & more pico de gallo were very satisfying with additional splashes of Tabasco. My taste buds were having a party and just as I thought my dining experience was complete..... THE DESSERT MENU IS PLACED IN MY FACE! So many luscious local made deserts! I just had to go with the HUGE slice of NY Cheesecake. So creamy, (It would have been over the top with a fresh raspberry topping.) I'm giving an overall 4.5 stars for the exquisite smooth live jazz that fills this establishment with class. But reserving my over the top five star rating for my next visit, if the Special Prime Rib on Thursdays, lives up to the hype! Service by IRMA was spot on and truly sent a sprinkling of 5 Stars in the wake of her busy attentive service! Definitely will be back for Prime Rib Thursday Special, to include a Wente Livermore Valley Merlot bottle at 25% off! I will also ask for my hotel discount, that I see mentioned in other reviews! Shame on me for not asking about any discounts on my first visit! Oh well, you gotta Yelp & learn! Stay tuned for my follow up review!

I really like Max's they are a diner and there aren't many places in the area other than some of the chains. Good casual comfort food with reasonable prices and friendly service. I had the Reuben it's very good but might be a bit different than before. I had it at the San Francisco location. Make sure you get dessert they have some great pies and cakes especially the cheesecake.

4.5 rounding up to 5 This restaurant is beside the Holiday Inn Express in Burlingame. I was really happy to see a full sit down restaurant instead of a fast food chain adjacent to the hotel. My first impression was that it looks very well established (old) but still in decent shape. We arrived at 3pm Sunday so I wasn't surprised (and glad) that it wasn't too busy. It's quite large, with separate dining rooms for booths and tables, bar side with smaller stand-up and stool tables, and a private event room. Tons of window seats all around. We were quickly greeted and seated with menus. Not too long after our server began to attend to us. Water came out immediately with our heavy cutlery in full, substantial napkins. We ordered a pan of nachos for the 3 of us to begin. They came out fairly quickly and we placed our entree orders. The condiments included 5 Beaver brand mustards and horse radish. I saw Tabasco included on other tables so not sure why it's not always provided. Our mains came soon after (original burger with fries; Philly cheese steak -beef with fries; and another Philly cheese steak -beef with Caesar salad.) Choice of sides is included and they were fries, kale salad, Caesar salad, Cole slaw, BBQ potato chips, potato salad and for an additional $2, sweet potato fries. The nachos themselves were pretty oily, but well loaded with guacamole, sour cream, black beans, tomatoes, red and green onions, pickled jalapeños,cilantro, and some cheese. The 3 of us ate maybe half, and then only 1 of us finished his burger. We were given containers and cutlery, napkins and a bag for the rest of our sandwiches and nachos. We stuck with water and one coffee, which I'm glad I skipped as it tasted like hotel coffee and came with those tiny creamers you I need 50 of to get the amount I take. The bread on our sandwiches was awesome, hot and soft but hefty enough to handle all the fillings. The fries had seasoned salt instead of plain which I didn't think an improvement, but the fries themselves were very good, fresh, crispy outside and fluffy inside. The Caesar salad interestingly comes with Kalamata olives, good quality but it makes you wonder if you're not eating a Greek salad instead. We'd have loved to try some dessert but we were too full. I was especially intrigued by a new offering called Sour Puss Cake which looked like a lemon cake with possibly raspberry jam between layers. The case is sort of odd in that it looks like an old diner appliance right at the front entrance, whereas the rest of the place is definitely above diner level decor. The huge booth we had was so comfy and cozy, and the warm colours and wood finishings are like a lounge. Our server was so on the ball, she automatically noticed the hotel key holder and added the 10% discount without our mentioning it. She was that perfect combination of attentive yet never hovering uncomfortably. I'm pretty sure that even though we're only here a few days and away sight seeing the whole time, we'll be back before we head home.

First off, shout out to our server Josefina, who was very helpful and attentive. Hadn't been here in years, and it's just as cozy and welcoming as I remember. The wife's shrimp Louie salad was really big and was generous with the shrimp. The Boy had an angus cheeseburger, which he devoured. I had the pastrami burger (pictured). I remember having the Reuben a while back, and I loved it. We definitely want to come back to try the pot pie and other main plates because it was hard to pick just one. The sweet potato and regular fries were also really good, portions were also very generous.
